Gray mm 2000 transmission jack oil fill4/12/2024 Hi, you will need a jack, jack stand, wrench, ratchet set and pliers to complete this job successfully. ![]() Pull the transmission out from under the E-350 van. Remove the rest of the bolts in the converter housing. Secure the transmission to the jack (or two jacks, if you need to use two jacks) using the chain. Slide the jack under the transmission and jack it up enough to raise the transmission so you can pull the crossmember out. Remove the six bolts that hold the crossmember on the side rails. Remove the two bolts that attach the rear engine mount and insulator. Disconnect the downshift linkage and manual cables using the appropriate sockets or screwdriver. Remove the three starter bolts, then pull the starter off the engine. Remove the cable, then put the nut back on the stud. Loosen the nut for the cable on the starter. Loosen the clamp on the vacuum diaphragm using the appropriate screwdriver or socket, depending on the type of clamp used. Disconnect the linkage rods from the levers on the transmission using the appropriate socket or screwdriver.ĭisconnect the oil cooler lines from the transmission using the appropriate line wrench. Install the seal installation tool in the extension housing to keep all the fluid from leaking out.ĭisconnect the speedometer cable from the extension housing on the transmission by unscrewing it. Slide the driveshaft toward the rear of the E-350 van and away from the transmission. Move the drain pan under the extension housing. Reinstall the drain bolt.ĭisconnect the driveshaft at the axle using the appropriate sockets. Remove the drain plug to allow the converter to drain. Look for the converter drain plug as you are removing the nuts. Repeat until you get all the converter-to-flexplate bolts out. This will turn the converter so that you can access more bolts. You will only be able to remove a couple of nuts at a time, so place a wrench on the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the crankshaft a few inches. Remove the converter nuts that attach the converter to the flexplate. Remove the converter drain plug access cover from the bottom of the converter housing, using the appropriate socket. Push the drain pan forward, toward the converter. Reinstall the pan with two bolts on the back of the pan to temporarily hold it in place. Remove the bolts and the pan, taking care to keep it over the drain pan, as not all the transmission fluid will drain out. Keep loosening the bolts until the fluid no longer spills out of the pan. The pan will tip as the bolts are loosened, allowing the fluid to drain into the pan. Loosen the bolts (do not remove them yet), starting at the back of the pan and working your way toward the front. Slide the drain pan under the transmission pan. Jack up the van using the floor jack and support it with the jack stands. The bolt is attached to the cylinder head. Remove the transmission fluid filler tube and dipstick using the appropriate socket or wrench. Unplug the neutral safety switch wiring harness, located at the back of the engine compartment, at its inline connector. Still working in the engine compartment, remove the two upper converter housing-to-engine bolts. Set it aside, ensuring that it does not touch metal. ![]() Open the hood and disconnect the battery ground cable. A transmission jack may be helpful but may not be necessary if you have good stable blocking with which to support the transmission while allowing you to move it rearward away from the engine.(rear wheel drive only) This is not a super technical job but will require hard work. If you have a library near you you may be able to find a repair manual to outline the procedure.Ībove all be safe when working under a vehicle so as not to be squished to death. It is a pretty big job but can be performed by a diligent worker with minimal experience following basic instruction from a simple manual. once you have the bolts removed and have matched a replacement flex plate you will need to torque the bolts back into the crankshaft and then reverse the procedure used to remove the transmission. Basically you must separate the engine and transmission move the transmission rearward far enough to reach the bolts which attach the flex plate to the engine. You will need a good jack and good blocking or jack stands to hold the vehicle up while you perform the task. To replace the flex plate you should purchase an inexpensive repair manual first off, then purchase an inexpensive tool set with Metric sockets and wrenches.
